500 WHITE RECTANGLES ON A PARKING GARAGE
Soliloquy Fine Arts 2232 SE Clinton St Suite B (Portland, OR)
July 20, 2024
500 White Rectangles on a Parking Garage is an extension of Carr’s temporary installation on a 6-story SmartPark, “3000 Yellow Rectangles on a Parking Garage”, this work similarly activates space – creating dialogues with the architectural structure to provide viewers a brief moment of relief, joy, and contemplation. Each rectangular unit is modular, and when combined, form dynamic patters that disrupt the typical order and function of the cinder block construction of the building. The careful placement of each piece is meant to evoke joy and curiosity, introducing a sense of play and wonder in its collective experience. Carr hopes to draw people into a deeper relationship with place and transform our everyday environments into something unexpected.
